He debuted with the band in at the Maury River Fiddler's Convention, where the band won first prize in the bluegrass band competition — he still has the ribbon.
He appeared as a guest on the band's second and third self-released albums and joined the band in the summer of Although his first instrument was a mandolin, Chris soon focused his energies on the violin. Throughout middle and high school, he grew as a violinist in symphony orchestras, the All-Virginia Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra Youth Apprenticeship Program, while keeping his bluegrass roots.
Soon after, he found himself fiddling with the East Coast Bluegrass Band with his father, and Nothin' Fancy shortly thereafter. He also routinely does work for DC-area recording studios as a session musician, and he is also an adjunct professor of violin, viola, and cello at the Woodbridge Campus of the Northern Virginia Community College. Mailing List. There are more good things happening for the band in , so stay tuned! The band members and our support team wish all of you the best and warmest wishes for you holiday season, and a perfect start to Remembering Tom T. The band and our family are immensely saddened by the death of our friend, colleague, and benefactor Tom T. Quietly sitting in the audience and watching us play was none other than the legendary songwriter Tom T.
For all the fame he knew from his hit songs, he was always that plain, soft-spoken gentleman from Olive Hill, KY. He was a friend to so many in bluegrass, and was so good to us as a band in particular.
There are simply no words to express our sorrow in knowing he has laid down his songwriting pen for the last time. Yet his works will live beyond his own time on earth, and we will continue singing them as a tribute to his legacy and as thanks to a truly great man.
His memory shall be a blessing, and we know that his reunion with Dixie and all those musicians who have gone on before will indeed give us the greatest musical inspiration of all.
