Aaron and I each worked on both the design and programming of BlindSide. We conceived of the game over a brunch, the premise stemming from a fusion of Aaron's ideas for a script based on his personal experiences with blindness , and my game design background and familiarity with Robin Arnott's audio-only game, Deep Sea.
Aaron's story seemed like a great fit for a game, and I saw the opportunity to build upon earlier audio games, which typically involved players in large open environments, moving towards or away from certain sounds. Unity allowed me to construct a fully physical 3D grey block world for players to stumble through.
This feature sets BlindSide apart from other audio games. Players must find their way through realistic bounded spaces such as an apartment or classrooms modeled on real-world locations which are crowded with furniture and other site-specific obstacles. Players can bump their shins into coffee tables, stumble into locked doors, and hear the squeak as they slide along mirrors.

Follows one young man from his impoverished childhood with a crack-addicted mother, through his discovery of the sport of football, to his rise to become one of the most successful, highly-paid players in the NFL. He takes up football, and school, after a rich, white, Evangelical family plucks him from the streets.
Then two great forces alter Oher: the family's love and the evolution of professional football itself into a game in which the quarterback must be protected at any cost. Our protagonist becomes the priceless package of size, speed, and agility necessary to guard the quarterback's greatest vulnerability: his blind side. The football star made famous in the hit film and book The Blind Side reflects on how far he has come from the circumstances of his youth. Michael Oher shares his personal account of his story, in this inspirational New York Times bestseller.
Looking back on how he went from being a homeless child in Memphis to playing in the NFL, Michael talks about the goals he had to break out of the cycle of poverty, addiction, and hopelessness that trapped his family. Eventually he grasped onto football as his ticket out and worked hard to make his dream into a reality. With his adoptive family, the Touhys, and other influential people in mind, he describes the absolute necessity of seeking out positive role models and good friends who share the same values to achieve one's dreams.
Sharing untold stories of heartache, determination, courage, and love, I Beat the Odds is an incredibly rousing tale of one young man's quest to achieve the American dream. When we first meet him, Michael Oher is one of thirteen children by a mother addicted to crack; he does not know his real name, his father, his birthday, or how to read and write.
Then two great forces alter Oher: the family's love and the evolution of professional football into a game where the quarterback must be protected at any cost. Our protagonist becomes the priceless package of size, speed, and agility necessary to guard the quarterback's greatest vulnerability, his blind side.
Detective Michael Bennett has a son who's in prison. Can one father help the other? Bennett and the mayor have always had a tense relationship, but now the mayor sees in Bennett an exceptional investigator who might be willing to take on a case that needs to be kept under the radar. The two men strike the deal. Sources lead Bennett to a homicide in the Bronx. The victim has ties to a sophisticated hacking operation - and also to the mayor's missing daughter.
But this murder is part of a serial killing spree, one with national security implications. Michael Bennett has always been an honourable man, but sometimes honour has to take a back seat.

Downing tools in the allotment where they have toiled for the last six years, Valerie and her husband Wolfram decide to cycle to Germany to visit his mother.
Before they leave, Val's guide the Aztec Priest appears among the bean rows and tells her this will be a Vision Quest - and so it turns out to be, not least due to their involvement in Channel 4's 'Real Holiday Show'.
In spite of the dangers they encounter on this trip they develop an appetite for foreign parts and embark on many subsequent cycling adventures, all of which turn out more or less disastrously. Travel with them as they ride through France, Italy and their beloved Black Forest - the stoic Val shouting instructions from behind as the hapless blind Wolf does his best to avoid hitting anything.
